Since it was conceived, El Poble Espanyol has been considered as a different, unique space within the city. Its urban layout has a surface area of 49,000 m2, a real village with streets and squares and in the natural surroundings of the hills at Montjuic. For this reason, 117 buildings, streets and squares are reproduced to scale to give an idea of a Spanish village containing the main characteristics of all towns and villages in the Peninsula. This "open-air museum" also holds more than 40 workshops, 11 restaurants, a Flamenco Show, a souvenir shop, etc and is only 10 minutes walking distance from Plaza de Espanya. Individual headphones with a brief explanation on the monument will also be supplied on certain languages.
